TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS
AGALAUS (FEARLESS) ART FESTIVAL, Voss, Norway, 2015
TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS problematizes and stages one of the most hotly debated and contested issues in today’s Norway: The ever-increasing presence of Gypsy beggars / Roma people / EU migrants. As these semantic alternatives show, even language has become politicized in this issue, and will automatically declare the user’s point of view ranging from the traditionally immigration-sceptical Right, through the politically correct moderate centre, to the minority-loving Left.
While waiting for anxious politicians to come up with any suggested solutions, T.E.E. offers a professionalized space for beggars to do their business, adapted to their way of life and cultural needs, and with a clear and identifiable visual profile inspired by airline adverstising campaigns and the Gypsy national flag.
