Arts Interventions Development

THE LIBERATION OF ISRAEL - 2019

November spawned a monster in the shape of this Golem:  For a whole month, art partisans and self-styled engineers of human souls LAIBACH, in close collaboration with Nordic colleagues TRAAVIK.INFO, will make the  Jewish state their spiritual home through a series of cultural interventions.  Leading up to Laibach’s triumphant return to the Holy Land with a live concert at Tel Aviv’s  Reading 3 on November 22, the stages of the 2019 autumn offensive are as follows:

November 1 - 20, Tel Aviv Cinematheque:   The Art Of Liberation: Cultural Clashes and Exchanges in A State of Siege  – a photographic exhibition by Traavik.info and Jørund F. Pedersen, going behind the scenes of the celebrated documentary films “Liberation Day” and “War of Art”.  Tel-Aviv Cinematheque, 5 Ha’arba’a St.

November 21 – December 6, Gallery StudioBank, Tel Aviv: PARTY SONGS  Record launch and exhibition opening November 21, 18.30  A visual celebration of pop music’s totalitarian temptations, bringing together  unashamed idol worship and darker strains of mass suggestion, with Laibach’s now world-famous  North Korea concerts as the main case study.  PARTY SONGS will start off with the launch of Laibach’s new release of the same name:  when the North Korean authorities asked the band to interpret and perform some highly revered revolutionary pop songs from the Party repertoire for the Pyongyang concerts, they got a lot more than they asked for. The new release gathers these Laibach “new originals” censored by the North Korean state but now finally available to the rest of the world.  StudioBank, 71 Ben-Yehuda St., Tel-Aviv. Tues-Thur 11:30-18:00; Fri-Sat 11:00-14:00

November 21st at 21:00: Liberation Day – screening of international hit documentary of Laibach’s visit to North Korea, followed by Q&A with director Morten Traavik and Laibach spokesman Ivan Novak. Tel-Aviv Cinematheque

November 22nd at 14:00: War of Art -  screening of new documentary on culture wars between Western artists and North Korean colleagues in the shadow of the nuclear bomb,  followed by Q&A with protagonist Traavik. Tel-Aviv Cinematheque November 22nd at 22.00, Reading 3, Tel Aviv: LAIBACH LIVE IN CONCERT
